Home Learning

It is a very different start to our Summer Term this year and we are extremely proud of our children and their parents for showing such resilience and enthusiasm for home learning! Here are some of the fun things they have been getting up to at home.  Da iawn pawb!

Year 1 Play Catch!

Our wonderful Y1 pupils have been playing a virtual game of 'catch'!
Our Topic is...

Amazing Animals

Soft fur, sharp claws and twitching whiskers... What’s your favourite animal? One that meows? One that barks? Or maybe one that scurries or slithers?  From pets at home to animals in the zoo, let’s find out what animals like to eat and where they like to sleep.  Do you know how to look after a rabbit? A cat? Or even a snake?

How you can help your child

  • Read regularly with your child at home, both listening to them and them listening to you: reading should be fun and enjoyable!
  • Help your child with their homework tasks, don’t do it for them but support them and make it an enjoyable experience for you both.
  • School starts at 8.50am.  Being punctual to school in the mornings is really important: help your child get their bag and uniform ready the night before to make mornings less stressful!

Useful Information

Homework: Homework is set termly and a ‘menu’ of activities will be given to choose from.

Reading Books: Reading books and records must be brought in daily.  Children will read weekly with an adult and books will be changed on a Friday.  Please make a note in the reading record to let us know that the book is ready to be changed.

Forest School:  We spend Monday afternoons in forest school activities. Please can they all wear a suitable waterproof coat with hood on this day.  We have lots of wellingtons from last year - we will let you know if your child doesn’t have a pair or if they are too small.

PE Kit:  PE will be on Wednesday.  As space is limited in Y1, your child can wear trainers and jogging bottoms/ shorts on PE days to save storing bags.  Please just send in a Sports top for them to change into.

Snack:  Snack money is £1 per week.  Children will receive a piece of fruit as well as milk/ water (free). Snack money can be paid weekly or termly.  Please send money in a clearly labelled envelope.

Spellings: As a school we are working hard on promoting the importance of spelling correctly. This term we are having a big push on spelling accurately in our work and trying to make spelling fun. Our aim is to produce capable and independent spellers through an engaging and challenging whole school approach. All children will be given spellings each week to learn and will be assessed through activities during the week.
