Parent / Carer Newsletter - Return to School

September 2020 – Return to School Arrangements

Dear parents and carers,

We hope that you have all managed to enjoy the summer break?!  Much like the rest of 2020, the time certainly has been ‘different’ to normal years - all apart from the weather, that is!

We are delighted to soon be welcoming back our children and families.  We hope that starting school will allow us all, the opportunity to reset our focus, and get a little closer to normality.

Despite the fact that we are thrilled to be welcoming all our children back to school; it is important to remember that we are still in the midst of a global pandemic.  In order for our pupils, staff, and families to remain safe, there are measures that we must continue to put in place.

Please take the time to read through the guidelines below, and share them with your children.  There has been no change, since the last update I sent, during the last week of term, but we will continue to monitor updates from Welsh Government.  As always, if you have any further comments, suggestions or queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Enjoy the remainder of the break, and we look forward to seeing you all soon!

Best wishes,

Mr. Leon Cox

Starting Dates:

  • We will have two closure days, at the very start of the year (Tuesday, September 1st and Wednesday, September 2nd).

  • All children, from Year 1 to Year 6, will return on Thursday September 3rd

  • Reception and Nursery children will begin attending (in staggered form), from Monday September 7th.

Mrs Edwards and Mrs Marsh have already provided families with a start date for each child.  If you do not have these, please contact the school.

Start / End of Day Arrangements:

  • For the first day (03.09.20), children (and staff) will return to their previous classes.  For example, last year’s Year 5 (July 2020) will return to Year 5.  We believe that this approach will help to reduce anxieties about returning, as children will be coming back to a familiar teacher.  We also believe it will enable us to have a more informed ‘check in’ when we return.

  • School start and finish times will continue to be staggered (table below).  In order to minimise the number of adults on school premises, at any one time, could we please ask that these times are stuck to as closely as possible.

  • If you have more than one child in the school, they should both / all be dropped off at the earliest times.  (For example, if you have one child in Year 6 and another in Year 3, both should be dropped off at 8.30am and both should be collected at 2.50pm).

  • The one-way system, implemented during the last weeks of the summer term, was very successful.  However, with the large increase in numbers returning, this approach will need to be adapted.  The main alteration will be to reverse the one-way route.  This means that families must enter the school through the single gate (on the yard), and exit through the double gates (on the drive).  [A video tutorial will be sent out, next week]

  • Please adhere to strict social distancing measures at all times, when on, or directly outside the school premises.

Breakfast Club / After School Clubs / Nursery Wraparound:

  • Unfortunately, there will be NO Breakfast Club, After School Club, or Nursery Wraparound provision, for at least the first two weeks.

  • We fully understand that these services are vital to many of our parents, and we are hoping to be able to offer them from Monday September 14th.   More information will be sent out, as soon as we have it.

Lunch / Break Times:

  • There will be NO lunches provided by school, for at least the first two weeks.  All children must bring a packed lunch with them.  Children should also bring enough drinking water with them for the day.

  • Break times and lunch times will continue to be staggered.

Other Points to Note:

  • Where possible, children are asked to wear school uniform, on their return to school.

  • Risk assessments and measures, will still be in place, to minimise the risk of cross-infection.  Such as; minimising the mixing of year groups, and minimising the sharing of resources.

  • The school has made detailed contingency plans, which will be implemented in the event of a second wave of the Covid19 virus.

Thank you once again.  We look forward to seeing you all soon.

Best wishes,

Mr. Leon Cox
