Summer 2022 Update

Eco Champs Beach Clean

On Wednesday 27th April Mayals Eco Champs took part in a beach clean with Apphia Ferguson from Smile Plastics. Eco Champs left school on the minibus with Mrs Gilmore-Jones and Mrs MacDonald and headed down to Bracelet Bay, we were quite excited! Once we arrived, we were greeted by Apphia and the Oceans and Plastics team. We started the session by doing a beach clean, we were given our own litter pickers, bags and gloves and had a safety talk on what we were allowed to pick up.  We found lots of plastic bottles, tissues and bits of fishing net, Alfie found part of a boat! We also found metal bottles and bits of pottery.

We spent time making up stories in the sand from the items that we had found on the beach and then gave them to Apphia to be sorted out into items that could be recycled and those that couldn’t. The plastic items that we found were going to be recycled back into table tops!

Eco Champs were really lucky as we had a marine biologist with us from Swansea University that could tell us all about the creatures that had been found in the rock pools that day. We had super weather and a super day!

Well done Eco Champs, Bracelet Bay is now a lot cleaner and we’ve stopped lots of rubbish going back into the sea.

Summer 2022 Update

Playground patrol have completed their task of designing the Playground and it has been achieved. We held an assembly to talk about the new yard equipment and these resources are available at lunchtimes to all pupils as part of a rota system.  This is going really well and members of the group help to setup and pack away the resources at lunchtime too.
